Eleven En-Suite Guest Rooms
From the moment you walk through the door of Riad Jonan you enter an oasis of calm and tranquillity. Situated in the Royal Quarter of the Medina, close to the Saadien Tombs, the riad is decorated to a high standard throughout, complemented with hand-made furniture from the craftsmen of the Medina with designs and ideas from the English owners.
The entrance hall opens into the pretty courtyard with hand laid terracotta tiled floors, mosaic tiled fountain, trees and flowering plants, one of the areas where breakfast can be taken. Passing from one riad into its former neighbour, one enters a second courtyard with a heated plunge pool for those that need to cool down in the summer months, or to dip their feet whilst relaxing in the summer evenings.
The ground floor houses two superior rooms and one deluxe room, these tend to be cooler in the warmer months. Also on the ground floor is the salon with comfortable seating and an Arabian style open fireplace, a small dining area for cosy evening meals in the cooler months, satellite television, English speaking channels and music system.
The first floor comprises eight more bedrooms all en-suite and with heating and air-conditioning. All the rooms overlook the courtyard and fountain. From this level is the blue Domed stairwell that leads to the roof terrace. The roof terrace is another place where you may take breakfast or other refreshments.

Eating at Riad Jonan
Eating at Riad Jonan is a Culinary experience not to be missed.
Breakfast: Our full time cook will prepare a hearty breakfast for you with freshly squeezed orange juice, English tea or Coffee and a selection from Cereals, Fresh fruit plate, Eggs prepared to order, Home made Yoghurt, Moroccan crepes and a bread basket of Croissants, Brioche and local breads. Breakfast is usually served in the courtyard around the fountain or may be served on the roof terrace (weather permitting).
Lunch: We have available a light Bite menu which can be ordered any time of day or evening. We just need 20 minutes notice. This menu includes favourites such as Thai Green Chicken Curry, Vegetable and Lentil Rogan Josh curry, Pasta Bolognese, Chili Beef, Sandwiches and Salads. All meals are cooked in our kitchen using fresh ingredients.
Authentic Moroccan Dinner: Our resident cook has many years experience of Moroccan cooking, many of her recipes have been passed down through her family. They say the best Moroccan meals are not in the restaurants but in their homes. Our cook will prepare a meal just for you. Cooked fresh on that day only using fresh ingredients bought from our local market. All our ingredients are organic. Hence why we need advance notice as the nature of Moroccan cooking takes several hours. A typical example of our three course dinner starts with a mixture of warm vegetable salads lightly spiced with aromatic spices, Cinnamon, Cumin and Ginger served with warm local flat breads. The main course is a Tagine of your choice, Meat, Fish or vegetable spiced with “ Ras Hanout” a blend of 35 spices. The Tagine is served with a vegetable steamed Couscous topped with Caramelized Onions. To Finish, either Fresh Oranges sliced and dusted with Cinnamon and Dusting sugar or a light Pastry cake. Tea, coffee or Mint Tea with Moroccan pastries.

Essaouira
Previously known by its Portuguese name Mogador, a fortress still commands the entrance to the harbour and the Medina itself has walled ramparts. Essaouira is usually much cooler than Marrakech and can be windy at times, it is no coincidence that the world wind surf championships are held here.

Imlil, High Atlas
Also highly recommended is a trip to the high Atlas village of Imlil, gateway to the magnificent Jbel Toubkal crowning wonder of the Atlas range and the tallest mountain in North Africa.

A night in the Desert
The desert is not so close to Marrakech, more than a hundred and fifty miles, and of course the Atlas mountain range sits in the way so the route to the Sahara at Zagara is seven hours drive. That makes a one-night excursion to the dessert a packed itinerary. Leave Marrakech at 8.00 am, drive down via Ait Ben Haddou stopping at its famous Kasbah then Ourzazate and on to Zagora.
